Our 1:18th scale Messerschmitt KR200 from 1955 has appeared in a variety of colour schemes and in both soft and hard top formats to date. For this release, it is registered 720 XUG and is decorated in a vibrant blue with black soft top effect and lots of silver exterior trim. Interior seating is black with beige piping and the floor is moulded black.
Designed by German Fritz Freud and manufactured in the famous Messerschmitt aircraft factory, the KR200 lasted in production until 1964. The 191cc single cylinder 2-stroke engine was mounted in front of the rear wheel and behind the passenger seat.
The driver and passenger positioned in tandem format, got into the car via a hinged canopy door which opened on the right hand side. The door also included the windscreen and window frames. The steering wheel mechanism was similar to an aircraft, which was interesting. Here it is moulded in beige with a silver circle while the dashboard echoes the blue body colour of the car. Despite it only lasting 10 years in real-life production, the Schmitt has now become a cult car and very collectable – if you can find one.
